Andrew Harris
Director


Andrew's commercial work includes acting as adviser to a broad scope of clients, ranging from large multi-national private companies to high-wealth individuals.  Andrew's breadth of experience, including having spent time as General Counsel for a multi-national and publicly listed technology company, enables him to provide timely and commercial advice on a broad range of corporations law and general commercial/contractual matters, including:

  • mergers & acquisitions;
  • trusts, joint ventures and business structuring arrangements;
  • capital raisings (including ASIC and ASX compliance and prospectus requirements);
  • financial services compliance, trade practices and ASIC regulations;
  • intellectual property licensing, maintenance and support agreements;
  • manufacture and distribution arrangements; and
  • sports law, including sponsorship, competition licensing and player endorsement agreements.

Andrew also acts for a number of bankruptcy trustees in relation to personal insolvency matters, with this experience also assisting companies and their directors with respect to asset protection and corporate restructure advice and documentation.

Andrew is proud to be the honorary lawyer for his beloved North Melbourne Football Club.

Michael completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing major) at Deakin University in 2005.

Achieving his articles at a Mildura based firm, and remaining at that firm for some years, Michael gained invaluable experience into a broad range of areas, including:
  • Property Law
  • Retail and commercial leasing
  • Sale and acquisition of businesses
  • Mortgages, charges and guarantees
  • Trade practices and contractual disputes
  • Building disputes
  • General commercial advice
  • Franchising
  • Estates, succession planning, trusts, Wills and powers of attorney

Michael moved to Melbourne and joined Harris Carlson Lawyers in early 2009 and advises in a range of commercial disciplines.

Nadia Angelo
Senior Associate


Nadia is the head of our Litigation Department and represents both corporate and individual clients across all Victorian and Federal jurisdictions.  Her practice encompasses a wide range of commercial litigation and corporate and personal insolvency disputes.  Her clients include insolvency practitioners, company directors, creditors, debtors and private individuals.

Before joining Harris Carlson Lawyers, Nadia worked at a mid-tier commercial firm in Melbourne, also practicing in commercial litigation with a focus on insolvency.

Nadia completed a combined Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Melbourne and gained a tremendous introduction to litigation practice in her position as Legal Associate to an Appeals Division Judge in the Family Court of Australia.

Nadia is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria, Insolvency Practitioners Association of Australia (through which she is currently undertaking two Masters of Laws subjects), International Women in Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation and Victorian Women Lawyers.

Aside from the law, Nadia is passionate about karate.  She studied martial arts for 16 years, holds the rank of second degree black belt and competed internationally for Australia.

Andrew Laing
Associate

Andrew was admitted to practice law in New Zealand in 2000 after completing a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science major) at Canterbury University in Christchurch.

In New Zealand, Andrew worked for a South Canterbury based firm and gained experience in several practice areas, including

  • Residential and Commercial Property Law
  • Estate Planning
  • Employment Law
  • Mortgages, charges and guarantees
  • General commercial advice

In 2005, Andrew left New Zealand to travel overseas before moving permanently to Melbourne.  Since arriving in Melbourne, Andrew worked as a Senior Estate Planning Lawyer for State Trustees before joining the Regulation Directorate of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission in 2007.  At ASIC, he primarily worked in the area of regulating the holders of Australian Financial Services Licences and the operators of management investment schemes where he gained invaluable experience in financial services law. 

Andrew chose to return to private practice and joined Harris Carlson Lawyers in late 2009.  Andrew advises in both our Commercial and Commercial Litigation Departments.

Marija Margeta
Lawyer

Marija is part of our Litigation team. Before joining Harris Carlson Lawyers, she worked in a boutique commercial law firm in East Melbourne, also practising in commercial litigation.

Marija has completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree at the University of Melbourne and a Post-graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. She has worked primarily in commercial litigation, encompassing both individual and corporate matters for a wide range of clients including private companies, professional firms and registered liquidators and trustees. Marija has assisted clients in a range of matters in all types of commercial disputes including trade practices, insolvency, intellectual property, leasing and contractual disputes.

Marija has had conduct of matters in both Federal and State jurisdictions, including matters in the Supreme, County and Magistrates Courts and VCAT.

Aside from the law, Marija holds an avid interest in photography and tennis, which she plays regularly.

Laura Hogg
Law Graduate

Laura completed her Bachelor of Laws at Deakin University in

November 2011 and is currently undertaking her 12 month practical

legal training at Harris Carlson Lawyers.  It is anticipated that she will

be admitted to the Supreme Court register as a lawyer in December 2012.

Besides recently obtaining her law degree, Laura has worked in the legal industry since 2000, in both large and mid tier firms.  Over the years, she has worked in all areas of Office Administration, including 5 years supporting Andrew Harris.

Laura works predominantly in our Commercial Law Department, with her experience and attention to detail allowing her to undertake a variety of research tasks and provide thorough feedback to assist in the provision of timely and accurate advice to our clients.

Kate Molcik
Law Clerk

Having worked in the legal industry in the area of Property Law since 1999, Kate joined the Property Law department of Harris Carlson Lawyers in early 2011.  Kate also practices in our Bankruptcy Department in matters involving dealing with the property of a bankrupt.

In her years of experience in Property Law, Kate has acted for individuals, companies, financial institutions and developers. She has also attained Certificates 1, 2 and 3 in Conveyancing & Subdivisions and Certificates 1 to 4 in Business Administration.

The various transactions in which Kate's expertise lie, include:

  • Commercial and Residential sales and purchases
  • Mortgages
  • Plan registration
  • Subdivisions
